about mr.cid

Hi. My name is Cid, and yes, I’m an auto-holic. I was in 3rd grade when I started taking apart Matchboxes & Hotwheels. At one point, I actually charged my classmate so I could swap out his wheels for a fresher set from a newer car. I even attempted to repaint a Matchbox Porsche 935 and failed miserably. Probably because water color was never meant to be used on die cast. Come on, I think I was 9 at the time. Eventually the hobby grew into scale models, r/c cars, and then puberty hit. For a while I actually didn’t have cars in my mind, but other things with rear ends.

When I was 15, my family moved from the Philippines to a suburb of Chicago, and let me tell you, it was a major change. Talk about culture shock. Even the weather was a bitch to get used to. But as I met more people and started developing friendships, I realized that these guys were also auto geeks. And so my addiction resurfaces. Of course in the mid-90’s, the fad were mini trucks and sport compacts. Being Filipino, I naturally eased right into a Toyota Celica with no hesitation. Now that I think about it, any Honda or Nissan would’ve worked. So a few cars, several engine swaps, turbo builds, street races, and lots of broken bolts later, it’s 2006. After dropping out of college and working as an office zombie for a few companies, I had an epiphany. Maybe it was more like common sense that hit me. After wasting time and money on cars, and having to deal with lousy service from local shops, I decided to go into the business and start MXPi Tuning.com in September of 06. This was MY way of getting parts for myself, and get a chance to actually help people acquire parts and help them with their builds. It’s a struggle during these tough times, but I’m alive.

Now I’m in the next phase of my life. It’s time to do something different. By having this little niche in cyberspace, I’m hoping that I can reach out to enthusiasts and hopefully form bonds and friendships that will help me in my quest for automotive enlightenment. With dedication, discipline, and lots of motivation, I one day hope to be able to open up shop with the intention of doing it till I die. I’m very excited to see what the future holds for me and my vision. But whatever the outcome, I’m happy to say that all this was because of…hold it…wait for it…    My Auto Obsession.

Godspeed,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Mr. Cid
